ESL Pro League Season 23 Stage 2 is officially underway, and the opening two days have already delivered the kind of action that makes this one of the most-watched events on the CS2 calendar. With 16 teams battling through a Swiss format, the early standings are beginning to take shape, and not every result has gone according to plan.
The first day of Stage 2 painted a broad picture of the competitive landscape. Some contenders arrived in clinical form. Others were punished early.
G2 wasted no time making a statement, dismantling FaZe 13-1 on Dust II before closing out the series 13-10 on Ancient. It was a dominant 2-0 performance that announced their intent from the jump. Spirit were similarly efficient, eliminating 3DMAX in back-to-back maps on Nuke and Overpass without dropping a meaningful round deficit. MOUZ also moved to 1-0 after grinding past HEROIC in a full three-map series, taking Mirage and Inferno after dropping Dust II.
NAVI had to dig deep against Monte in what became a proper three-map fight. Monte took Dust II convincingly but were dismantled on Inferno, and NAVI eventually sealed the series on a 13-11 Mirage. A solid start for the CIS side, even if it was harder than expected.

The day's most dramatic match came from Aurora vs Legacy. Aurora survived a brutal Inferno overtime, winning 25-21, before Legacy levelled on Overpass. Aurora closed it out on Dust II to take the series 2-1.

MongolZ had their own overtime scare on Nuke against paiN, edging it 19-17 before finishing the job on Mirage.

Day 2 brought the CS2 news the community had been waiting for: G2 extended their perfect run by taking down NAVI in a full three-map series. After NAVI won map one on Dust II, G2 responded with back-to-back wins on Mirage and Ancient to flip the series and move to 2-0, looking like genuine Stage 2 title threats.

FaZe, already stinging from the Day 1 loss to G2, were unable to bounce back against paiN. The Brazilian side produced a genuine upset, taking Nuke in overtime before sealing the match on Mirage despite FaZe levelling on Dust II. FaZe now sit at 0-2 and face immediate must-win pressure in the next round.

MOUZ continued their impressive run, defeating Astralis across three maps after a tense overtime on Ancient. The German outfit are now 2-0 alongside G2, Spirit, and MongolZ, who swept Aurora to maintain their unbeaten record.

Image source Spirit were pushed to three maps by B8. The Ukrainians eventually got it done on Dust II, but B8 proved they belong in this competition.

FUT bounced back from their Day 1 loss to Astralis by taking down HEROIC in another three-map series, while 3DMAX recovered from their Spirit beatdown to sweep Furia and avoid the 0-2 bracket.

Legacy also cleaned up their stage debut stumble, going 2-0 over Monte to get back into contention at 1-1.

After two days of action, G2, MOUZ, Spirit, and MongolZ have emerged as the stage's four unbeaten sides, each sitting at 2-0 with a dominant run of form. At the other end of the table, FaZe, HEROIC, Furia, and Monte are all at 0-2 and must win their next match to stay in the tournament. With Swiss format pressure mounting, Day 3 will be one of the most critical yet, as the front-runners seek early advancement and the bottom four fight to stay alive in ESL Pro League Season 23 Stage 2.
