Tundra Esports secured their second straight BLAST Slam title on May 12, defeating Team Falcons 3-1 in the grand finals. The win earned them $300,000, adding to a dominant year that already includes three tournament victories.
But the post-match spotlight quickly shifted from Tundra’s success to controversy and unexpected revelations.
Falcons offlaner Ammar “ATF” Al-Assaf took a public jab at Tundra’s carry Remco “Crystallis” Aretz, posting on X:
“You play so awful that it's mind boggling how you won again.”
Despite leading his team to yet another title, Crystallis has been under fire from critics. He responded with humor during a Twitch stream:
“I’m still the worst, to be honest. Still a terrible carry. I’ll launch a stream in a week and I’ll caption it ‘worst carry in the world.’”
Crystallis previously made a similar joke after winning ESL One Bangkok, turning criticism into content.
Meanwhile, Falcons midlaner Stanislav “Malr1ne” Potorak revealed on Telegram that he was sick during the finals, battling a fever and congestion. He clarified it wasn’t an excuse, but context:
“Felt unwell, nose stuffed up + fever + slight weakness. This is not an excuse… just sharing.”
Malr1ne added that Falcons were still satisfied with second place after a disappointing previous event, but admitted frustration at not winning in over half a year.
As Falcons look ahead to Riyadh Masters and The International 2025, Tundra’s momentum continues—criticism or not.
