Ever since the introduction of skins in August 2013, the Counter-Strike community has been constantly captivated by the allure of rare weapon cosmetics. With the transition from CS to CS2, this interest has only increased, keeping the legacy of skin trading and case openings alive.
For many, the excitement of opening a case and seeing that golden overlay appear is an all-too-familiar thrill, but nothing quite comes close to the electric atmosphere of a knife actually dropping live at a major CS event. The anticipation of the crowd, the excitement, and the pure luck of getting that rare item: surely these are some of the best moments in history. Let's dive into some of the wildest chest openings that have ever graced live CS2 events, where dreams are made with the click of a button and a stroke of luck.
A fan recently got lucky in the cathedral of Counter-Strike. **Maybe the venue and the historic event itself had something to do with his luck. **Nonetheless, it made the drop even more epic, especially since it was shown during the official broadcast. If you’re going to the next IEM Cologne, which we wholeheartedly suggest, maybe hold your cases until then.
Just a couple of years earlier, another fan got lucky at the same event. Lanxess Arena, filled with fans and amazing CS, got even better when this fan received a knife from a case in the audience! FaZe Clan won that IEM Cologne 2022 event in an epic final against Natus Vincere.
Not only do fans get lucky at these events. Just before their group stage match against 3DMAX, legendary Virtus.pro player** Jarosław "pashaBiceps" Jarząbkowski** decided to open five cases. Unfortunately, it wasn’t in the full arena since it was just the group stage. He managed to get a knife and show off a bit of his inventory. VP went on to win the match but finished 3rd/4th at the event, losing only to the champions, Fnatic.
At the BLAST.tv Major in Paris in 2023, we witnessed one more knife being opened during the live broadcast, making it seem like knives do drop at other events besides IEM. Many have questioned whether the opening was real or just a prerecorded video. In any case, it was a great stunt from BLAST, or someone got really lucky. Judge for yourself.
