The CS2 news coming out of Cologne is nothing short of historic. NiKo has his Major. After a decade of near-misses, heartbreaks, and legendary performances that somehow never translated into a championship, Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov's MVP award and the Team Falcons trophy run will be remembered as one of the defining moments in CS2 history.
The Falcons did not just win the IEM Cologne 2026 Major. They bulldozed through it.
Team Falcons' path through the playoffs was ruthless from start to finish. In the quarterfinals, they were the one side to deliver a result nobody predicted, eliminating tournament favorites Vitality and turning the bracket on its head. That upset set the tone for everything that followed.

From there, the momentum never left them.
Three of the four quarterfinals went according to the predictions made in our Playoffs Pick'ems guide. FURIA dispatched 9z as anticipated. Aurora handled BetBoom comfortably. Team Spirit, unsurprisingly, outclassed G2 and booked their semifinal place.
Then came Quarterfinal 4. Vitality entered as clear favorites against Team Falcons, and the prediction here sided with the French roster. The Falcons had other ideas. They knocked out Vitality and immediately inserted themselves as legitimate dark horses for the title.

Prediction accuracy for the quarterfinals: 3 out of 4 correct.
The first semifinal was a statement from FURIA. They swept Aurora 2-0, winning Dust2 13-9 and following it up with a dominant 13-4 on Nuke. Aurora had nothing for them. FURIA looked sharp, organized, and hungry for a return to the Grand Final.

The second semifinal was a different story entirely. The bracket had rearranged following the Vitality upset, meaning Team Spirit faced Team Falcons rather than the predicted Vitality matchup. What followed was one of the most gripping series of the tournament.
Falcons took Anubis 16-14 in a razor-thin opener. Spirit hit back hard on Mirage, winning 13-8 to level the series. The deciding map, Dust2, went to Falcons 16-12. Spirit's run was over. The predicted finalist had been eliminated, and an entirely different Grand Final was now set.

Check out our Pick'ems section to see how your predictions stacked up after these semifinal results.
Team Falcons vs FURIA. Not the predicted final, but perhaps the right one given the form both sides had shown throughout the playoffs.
What Falcons produced in the Grand Final was extraordinary. Three maps. Three wins. An identical 13-8 scoreline on Mirage, Anubis, and Inferno. No map went to overtime. No map was particularly close. Team Falcons played with the kind of composure and consistency that championship teams are built on.

FURIA, who had been impressive throughout their playoff run, simply could not match the level Falcons were operating at. The sweep was comprehensive, and there was no disputing the better team on the day.
m0NESY was named MVP of the event, a recognition of a tournament-defining individual performance. And then there was NiKo.

Ten years. Countless deep runs. Performances that should have resulted in trophies more than once. The narrative around NiKo and the Major has been one of CS's most enduring storylines, a mixture of admiration for his talent and genuine sympathy for the hardware that never came.

That storyline has its ending now. NiKo lifted the IEM Cologne 2026 Major trophy as a world champion, and it is difficult to think of a more deserved moment in recent CS history. The Falcons' victory is a team triumph, but this one carries something extra.
Congratulations to Team Falcons, to m0NESY on the MVP, and to NiKo on a moment a decade in the making.
